Overview

This guide will explain how to embed Vimeo video content within sessions.

  • The video content must be hosted on Vimeo, either live stream or pre-recorded.
    • Your organization must possess a Vimeo account, which will be used to host your videos. You will have full access to manage and customize your videos and live streams, as well as manage live polls, Q&A, moderate the audience chat, and so forth.
      • NOTE: Chat will only be visible 1 hour prior and for 1 hour after the session, for as long as the Vimeo video feed is kept live (Whichever is shorter).
    • Live streaming on Vimeo requires a Vimeo Premium account.
    • Live streaming to Vimeo from another service (such as a Zoom meeting or webinar) is supported, and instructions for doing so are included below.
  • Only one video per session is supported.
  • Videos are currently only embedded on the web interface.
  • Vimeo Premium Account supports up to 3 concurrent streams.

Embedding a Pre-Recorded Vimeo Video

Configuring the Video - Vimeo

  1. Log in to Vimeo and open the creator dashboard by clicking "Videos" in the left side menu.
  2. If you haven’t uploaded your video to Vimeo yet, click “New video” in the upper-right corner of the page and choose “Upload.”
  3. Once your video has been uploaded, click on it to manage the video’s settings. Inspect the following settings:
    1. General -> Info
      1. Title
      2. Description
      3. Thumbnail (choose from the suggestions, or upload a custom thumbnail)
    2. General -> Privacy
      1. Who can watch? (Affects visibility on vimeo.com)
      2. Where can this be embedded?
        1. Important! – Choose “Anywhere” or “Specific domains” (specify: rdmobile.com).
    3. Embed
      1. Important! – Use the options on this page to customize what elements will appear on the embedded video player. You can customize the controls, video title and author information, and set a custom color and logo. (Some customization features require an upgraded Vimeo account.)
    4. Other
      1. Interaction tools: Optional ability to add an optional end screen, email capture, chapters, in-video links, or a custom video URL.
      2. Distribution: Set the video language, tags, and content rating. Upload subtitles of closed captions if applicable.
      3. Analytics: View video analytics.
    5. Once you’ve configured your video and saved changes, click “Share” in the upper-right corner of the page, and choose “Copy video link." Alternatively, the the Share link is visible above the video frame.

Adding the Video to a Session - Backoffice

  1. Log in to the RD Mobile Backoffice and choose the session that you’d like to add the video to.
  2. Click “Edit” in the upper-right corner of the page.
  3. Scroll down and paste the Video Link that you got from Vimeo into the “Video ID or live event ID” box.
    1. The Video ID is the number set at the end of the Video Link. Remove the information prior to the number, leaving only the number in the Video ID field.

      Example: Vimeo link = https://vimeo.com/459197137 then 459197137 is the Video ID.

      Note: We recommend the privacy setting: "Hide from Vimeo" and "Embed: Anywhere" on the Vimeo platform.

  4. Click “Save” in the upper-right corner of the page.
  5. Open the session details page on your event site and verify that the video appears as expected.

Embedding a Live Meeting or Webinar from Vimeo

NOTE: Streaming live video on Vimeo requires a Vimeo Premium account. Streaming a Zoom meeting or webinar also requires paid Zoom features. Contact Zoom for assistance if you’re not sure whether your Zoom account supports live streaming.

Configuring the Vimeo Live Event - Vimeo

  1. Log in to Vimeo and open the creator dashboard.
  2. If you have not created your live event on Vimeo, click “New video” in the upper-left corner of the page and choose “Create live event.”
    1. Please select "Recurring" and set the Privacy to "Hide from Vimeo" or "Public":
    2. NOTE: We recommend the privacy setting: "Hide from Vimeo" and "Embed: Anywhere" on the Vimeo platform.
  3. On the "Event" tab, if desired, enable "Chat." This enables the Vimeo Chat capabilities.

    1. NOTE: Chat window will only be displayed 1 hour prior and for 1 hour after the session, for as long as the video session is kept live (Whichever is shorter).
  4. Click the “Embed” tab. Here, you can customize what controls and elements will appear on the embedded video player.
    1. NOTE: By default, the Vimeo logo will appear on videos. This can be changed on the "Embed" tab, to include providing your organization's logo (Display Custom Logo).
  5. Once you’ve finished configuring the player, click back to the "Event" tab and copy the Link address.

Adding the Live Video to a Session - Backoffice

  1. Log in to the RD Mobile backoffice and choose the session that you would like to add the video player to.
  2. Click “Edit” in the upper-right corner of the page.
  3. Scroll down and paste the Video Link that you got from Vimeo into the “Video ID or live event ID” box.
    1. Please be sure to select the"Vimeo live event (recommended for most Vimeo events)" option
    2. The Video ID is the number set at the end of the Video Link. Remove the information prior to the number, leaving only the number in the Video ID field.
      1. Example: Vimeo link = https://vimeo.com/459197137 then 459197137 is the Video ID.
  4. Click “Save” in the upper-right corner of the page.
  5. Open the session details page on your event site and verify that the video player appears as expected. If the live event has not started, the player should appear blank with the message “This event hasn’t started yet.

Live Streaming a Zoom Meeting or Webinar

  1. First, complete all the steps in the previous two sections to configure a Vimeo live event and add the video to a session in the RD Mobile backoffice.
  2. Log in to Vimeo and open the creator dashboard.
    1. Click on your live event. If you have separate live events for each session, make sure that you select the correct one.
    2. If you see a “Next” button in the upper-right corner of the page, click it.
    3. You should see a preview of the video player with two tabs above it: “Webcam” and “Connect (RTMP).”
    4. Click the “Connect (RTMP)” tab.
    5. Leave this page open, then log in to Zoom in a separate tab/window. We’ll come back to this page in step 4.
  3. Log in to Zoom as the meeting/webinar organizer.
    1. Follow these steps to enable live streaming to “Custom Live Streaming Service” for meetings and/or webinars.
      1. Please note that meetings and webinars are configured in two different places, and the settings are managed independently. Make sure that you enable “Custom Live Streaming Service” for whichever type of meeting you intend to use.
  4. Follow these steps to configure the custom live stream settings for your Zoom meeting or webinar.
    1. Stream URL: Is the “RTMP URL” field on your Vimeo live event.
      1. This should be a URL that starts with “ rtmp://”
    2. Stream key: The “Stream key” field on your Vimeo live event.
      1. This should be a long series of letters and numbers.
    3. Live streaming page URL: The “Video Link” from your Vimeo live event.
      1. This should be a URL that starts with “https://vimeo.com/” followed by a series of numbers
      2. If you can’t find this field, click the “Event setup” button in the upper-right corner of the Vimeo event page, then click the “Event” tab in the upper-left. You should see the “Link” field right below that.

Hosting your Zoom meeting when live streaming to Vimeo

  1. Staring Zoom Meeting: After the Zoom meeting/webinar has started, the meeting host must follow these steps to initiate the Vimeo live stream.
    1. Click the “More” button in the Zoom host interface.
    2. Click “Live on Custom Live Stream Service.”
    3. Zoom will attempt to start the Vimeo live stream, and will indicate whether it was successful or not.
    4. If Zoom fails to start the live stream, double-check the live stream configuration in step 4.
