Increasing App Downloads & Engagement - Marketing Campaign

Over the years of working with organizations large and small we've heard a common question:
"How can I increase the number of attendees who download and engage with our app?"
The following App Awareness Campaign has been designed to answer that question, and we've been very pleased with the results. Most of the organizations who have implemented the following recommendations have attained over a 90% download rate and we've had several that surpassed 100% (as in more devices download the event app than attendees).
The key to the campaign's success is making the attendee or delegate aware of why they need the app and what it will do for them.
- Provide valuable and compelling content and features in the app (schedule, directory, destination information, onsite networking tools, games or contests)
- Early and often communication via email (and year-round push notifications if you are an Engagefully customer)
- On-site staff at registration trained to ask attendees if they have the app, inform them of the value, and offer to assist in getting started
- At opening keynote or general session, have an app advocate share with attendees the reasons why they will benefit from using the app
- Create your schedule in advance to maximize your educational opportunities
- Review Exhibitors to determine who you want to meet with onsite
- Create an app account to see personalized content and facilitate networking
- Network through the app with the smart network builder, hosted appointments, interactive timeline, digital business card exchanges and private quick chat features
- Participate in app game to learn and win prizes
- FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out): some sessions and speakers have changed, make sure you have the most recent details and receive important announcements
- 4 weeks out: Awareness of the app, overview of key benefits, links to download
- 3 weeks out: Planning your schedule, maximizing your time, links to download
- 2 weeks out: Creating your account, personalized content, links to download
- 1 week out: Start your networking now, see who’s attending, private quick chat, links to download
- 4 days out: scavenger hunt game, links to download
- 2 days out: FOMO, room changes, what to do in an emergency, links to download
- 1 day out: Event starts tomorrow, do you have the app, have you logged in, links to download [via app backoffice, only those who haven’t logged in yet]
An additional benefit of the above strategy is many attendees will download the app and engage with your event content prior to arrival, thus improving the experience for both participants and staff.
